The Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) is a coalition of Ontario-based voluntary organizations committed to achieving global development in a peaceful and healthy environment, with social justice, human dignity and participation for all.
Through the YMCA's Youth Eco Internship Program, OCIC is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to fill the role of Sustainability Intern - Policy and Education. The position will entail a combination of planning and implementing large-scale public engagement events and developing organizational policy related to environmental practices. The intern will be working with a diverse set of partners, including OCIC members, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Environmental Organizations (ENGOs), to coordinate dynamic environmental education activities and organizational policy.
The ideal candidate will have strong networking skills, with proven experience organizing events and facilitating projects with diverse stakeholders. S/he will have creative ideas, excellent writing skills, and knowledge of international development issues. As a key member of a small staff team, s/he must be able to work independently on a variety of tasks, and to motivate others to participate.
Primary Responsibilities:
1) Global Environmental Youth Conference - Collaborate with OCIC members to develop conference program - Liaise with presenters/facilitators - Arrange venue logistics - Implement outreach strategy - Coordinate participant registration process
2) G8 People's Summit - Support steering committee to plan two-day People's Summit to be held in Toronto - Support international and environmental programming at Summit - Network with potential partners to lead sessions at the Summit
3) OCIC Environmental Policy - Collaborate with Staff and Board to draft an environmental policy for OCIC to guide purchasing, office practices, and travel decisions. Policy to be shared with member organizations as a model. - Build on environmental audit tool developed by OCIC previously to minimize organization's footprint
4) Other tasks as needed and opportunities arise.
Qualifications:
§ University degree or college diploma in the fields of international development, environmental studies, or a similar field § Knowledge of international development and/or environmental sectors in Ontario § Commitment to working within an anti-oppression framework § Experience in and solid knowledge of social justice and cooperation in the current global context § Demonstrated ability to build relationships, work as a team player and develop consensus with diverse stakeholders § Demonstrated experience coordinating conferences and events § Strong verbal and written communication skills § Detail-oriented, with ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, monitor progress towards goals and track information § Policy experience an asset § Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint § Enthusiastic and creative!

Salary: $14.00 per hour / 35 hours per week
